With school starting again for the new school year, you will see an increase of school buses on the roads. Make sure that you are aware of any buses that are in your lane, or an oncoming lane as well. If a bus is in front of you, make sure to pay attention and are not distracted when on the road. When the bus pulls over, you will want to stop immediately. The first sign is if the lights start to flash on the bus. Once the bus slows down and stop, you will notice the stop sign on the side of the bus will extend. This means kids will be crossing the street and getting on the bus.

Buses and Stopping

If you ignore the stop sign on the bus and pass it, you can run the risk of getting a ticket or causing a severe accident or worse. So always make sure you notice buses as the drive and stop on their routes. The same is true if you are driving in a lane toward an oncoming bus. Make sure to slow down and stop when you see flashing lights or the sign extended out. Even if you are not sure, it is best to slow down and stop, rather than increasing the chance of an accident occurring. Never drive around a bus if it is stopped with the sign out. You will want to make sure that you are aware of those around you as well. Make sure no one is crossing the street.

Keep headlights on

You will also want to remember that in certain weather conditions, it may be difficult for the bus driver to see you. It is important to make sure that the lights of your vehicle are placed and aimed correctly. That way you can see the road ahead of you too as you drive. If you notice the lights are a little dim, make sure to schedule an appointment with us. We can check the lights and ensure they are in the best condition for when you need to drive.
