The best thing you can do for your vehicle is to make sure it is maintained on a regular basis. Make sure the vehicle is in for a winter inspection before parts have become too worn or damaged. Bring the vehicle in and we can inspect it for any issues that might have occurred. This can help to ensure it will be efficient and in good working order for when you need to drive it this winter. Also remember to keep the fuel tank at least half full during the winter months. This can be beneficial incase you are in an emergency situation. No matter if you are driving, or if you are unfortunately stuck in snow, having the fuel tank as full as possible is beneficial.
Make sure to check all the fluids
The antifreeze is an essential part for the protection of your vehicle this winter. The antifreeze is the fluid that goes into the radiator. Besides making sure the antifreeze is to the recommended amount, also inspect the other fluids in the vehicle. The oil should also be inspected to ensure it is clean. Having clean oil can help make your vehicle more efficient. When recommended, the oil should be changed. Old oil can cause a buildup with parts in your vehicle. It can also collect contaminants that cause the motor to run harder. Also, make sure the oil filter is inspected and replaced when recommended as well. The filter is necessary in order to trap any contaminants or particles that the oil may have. This can help prevent the dirty oil from going to the engine and other parts of your vehicle.
Inspect the tires of the vehicle
The tires should be inspected on a regular basis, no matter what time of the year it is. The air pressure should be checked regularly. This is because when it is cold outside, the air pressure will decrease in the tires. The recommended air pressure can be found on inside of the door or in the vehicle owner’s manual. Too low of air pressure can cause your vehicle to pull in one direction or the other. It may also lead to poor fuel efficiency for the vehicle. Tires that have too low of air pressure may have the risk of blowing out when driving. If there is too much air pressure in the tires, it is more likely to pick up sharp objects that may be on the road. This results in a punctured tire that will need patching or replacing as soon as possible. The tread should also be inspected. Good tread can help the vehicle grip the road if it is slippery or wet.
The windshield and wipers should be in good condition
The vehicle’s windshield should be free from cracks and punctures. This can help to ensure you can see clearly out of the vehicle without any obstructions. Any cracks or divots can impair the visibility you have when looking out of the windshield. Also, you may not be able to see an object that is in the middle of the road. Also make sure that the windshield wiper fluid if filled up the designated amount on the reservoir. The windshield wipers should also be inspected and replaced when recommended. If the blades become old, brittle, and have rips in them, they will not be able to effectively clear the window so you can see. You can also bring your vehicle in and we can inspect it and other components for you.
