Make sure to be as prepared as possible for any vehicle issues that might occur. By taking the vehicle to regular maintenances, you can help keep it in the best working condition possible. We can inspect parts and components of the vehicle. Also make sure to notice gauges with the vehicle when you drive as well. Periodically check the temperature gauge while you are driving. If you see that it is above normal, make sure to keep an eye on it as you drive. If the gauge starts to rise into the red section, make sure to pull over and turn the vehicle off. This can help to prevent a major issue with the engine, as well as a costly repair bill.

Look for any Steam

If the temperature gauge starts to rise, make sure to do a quick check to see if there is any steam coming from your vehicle. If you see steam coming from under the hood of your vehicle, it is important you know what to do. By doing the correct action, you can help to prevent and further damage to the engine and other parts under the hood of the vehicle. It can also help to decrease the chance of a costly repair bill when the vehicle would need to be inspected.

Turn off the Air Conditioner

One of the first steps to is to make sure to turn the air conditioner off. This is especially true for hot days. This can help to reduce the strain and stress the engine has. If the temperature gauge is still high after turning the air conditioner off, try turning the heater on full blast. This helps because it is able to transfer heat away from the engine of the vehicle. It may be uncomfortable in the vehicle, but the engine could start to cool down. If this does not solve the issue, there is something larger and more serious going on. Be sure to bring the vehicle in so we can inspect it for you.

Pull over and turn the vehicle off

If the vehicle is still overheating, make sure to find a safe place to pull over and stop. It is also recommended to not idle the engine when waiting to stop. Some engines have to work harder to keep cool at an idle than at high speeds. Also make sure you are out of the way of the traffic so you can help to prevent an accident from happening.

Check the Coolant level in the vehicle

If there is steam coming from under the hood, it will be much hotter under there than it usually is. The hood should be released and slightly ajar to make sure the heat can be removed from under there. When it is safe to do so, open the hood fully so you can inspect the coolant levels. Check the coolant level in the reservoir. If it is low, there could be a leak somewhere in the system. If the reservoir is empty, you may have to fill it with coolant or call to have it towed to a mechanic to be inspected.
