Cautious Driving this Winter

driving

Driving in the winter months can be more challenging than the rest of the time of the year. This mostly deals with the weather and road conditions as you travel. It can be beneficial if you check the weather forecast before you drive. This should include the route you are taking, as well as your destination. Knowing the weather forecast can help you to prepare for the type of weather you will be driving into or during your drive. It would also be beneficial to check the current road conditions. Knowing that the roads might be slick or slippery will help you to drive with caution. You will also know if you will need to drive slower than normal. Make sure to leave in plenty of time so you can make up for the drive.

Visibility

The visibility when you drive is important. In the winter snow and ice can form on your windshield, resulting in poor visibility as you drive. The windshield wipers should be inspected to make sure the blade, rubber part, and overall wiper will work properly. If you notice an issue, make sure to replace the windshield wipers as soon as possible. Over the summer, wipers can become brittle due to the heat and sun. Also make sure that you fully scrape away any ice, snow, or frost from all your windows on your vehicle. This includes the windshield, side windows, rear window, as well as the side mirrors. Doing so will improve your overall visibility.

Check the tires

The tires should also be inspected for the tread wear. The thread helps to grip the surface of the road when you drive. Tires with poor tread can result in the vehicle sliding on the road. When roads are icy or snow covered, you will want your tires to have the best tread possible for them. If you are not sure if the tires are in good condition, bring the vehicle in and we can inspect them for you.
